As the critic's sharpen their poison pens April 11, 2009 Derek M. Koch (KS United States) 10 out of 12 found this review helpful
This may just be my feeling, but Diane seems to have suffered a critical back lash ever since she married Mr Costello. Heart broken dreamers, those that believe great art can only be produced by the unloved or lonely, I don't know, but the 1 and 2 star reviews seem unfair. This is a Very fine album with some very deft, lush, and lovely covers. Others speak of a breathlessness in Diane's vocals. I found them very warm and appropriate for the mood. Or maybe shes just worn out from chasing after her 2 little boys[lol]. Diane has a rich body of work to look back on, this wonderful record proves shes still looking forward.
Absolutely Wonderful!!!! April 26, 2009 Janet K. Yancey (Chapel Hill, NC) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
Diana Krall's voice is so delicious. Her choice of songs on this CD is outstanding as well as sexy and romantic. I continue to play it time and time again. The sounds make me feel so mellow and happy... In my opinion, her voice on this CD is unsurpassed!!!! I wish there were more songs because I can't seem to get enough. Worth every cent and more!!!!!!
Intimate Artistry April 14, 2009 Michael Killen (Colorado) 13 out of 17 found this review helpful
It's hard to go wrong with such a fine talent as Krall. And she hits the mark with this simultaneously seductive and somber collection. Producer Tommy LiPuma, a master at these kind of projects, surrounds Krall with just the right players and sound. This CD is worth it alone for hearing the still brilliant Claus Ogerman's orchestral arrangements. They inter play perfectly with Krall's masterful phrasing. Find a quiet time and get lost in the artistry that is brimming from this fine CD.
essential Diana Krall April 28, 2009 JJ (Las Vegas) 13 out of 17 found this review helpful
I have to admit I read several extremely negative reviews on Ms. Krall's latest effort, "Quiet Nights", before making my purchase last week. Like many, I pretty much own everything she's ever done, and have never been disappointed. Was this going my first let down?? Those reviews sure had me worried.
If you an ardent fan, worry not, because Diana once again delivers. If you like a soothing female voice, singing well arranged numbers backed by magnificent strings, then you cannot go wrong with "Quiet Nights". Personally, I even prefer the return of the strings section vs. the brassier tone of her most recent efforts. I also like the fact Diana does quite a bit of silky piano work on each song.
Forget these reviews. "Quiet Nights" is a winner.
LUSH AND EASY April 13, 2009 Tube Sound (CT, USA) 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
FAR too much music today that is hard and difficult to listen to. Here is a lush, warm, relaxing recording of some simply great songs. Want to calm down a little? Please try this. You will not be disappointed.
