| | | The Apple MacBook Air SuperDrive is the perfect complement for the new, sleek MacBook Air. You can read and write CDs and DVDs, and it is perfect for watching a DVD movie, installing software, backing up your data, and more.
Read and write DVDs and CDs on your MacBook Air. | Burn and Play CDs and DVDs The new Apple MacBook Air is thin and beautiful, and is able to do tricks such as borrow the optical drive of another computer on a network. But sometimes you need an optical drive on the go, and that's where the Apple MacBook Air SuperDrive comes in. Made by Apple with a design to complement the MacBook Air perfectly, the MacBook Air SuperDrive connects to your MacBook Air with a built-in USB cable you'll never lose. No extra power adapters are needed, as the SuperDrive simply draws power from the USB connection itself, regardless of whether or not your MacBook Air is plugged in. The SuperDrive features speedy performance, writing DVD+R DL and DVD-R DL discs at up to 4x speed, and DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, and DVD+RW discs at up to 8x speed. Small Size for Easy Portability The MacBook Air SuperDrive employs a slot-loading design that makes it miniscule--barely larger than a CD case. You can easily drop the MacBook Air SuperDrive into your bag and take it everywhere you go. Now you can enjoy a DVD movie while on the plane or you can burn onto a CD that song you've been working on while you were on the tour bus. What's in the Box MacBook Air SuperDrive with attached USB cable, user's guide.

Also makes a great repair part! December 3, 2009 David A. Foster (Osceola, WI USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We needed a new DVD drive for our Core Duo Mac Mini and Apple branded replacements are not cheap. This works as a no-hack OEM fix for the Mini. Remove the drive, brackets and board from this drive, then six screws to get the drive out of the Mac Mini and off you go!
Great device for the MacBook Air June 19, 2008 A.H. (Oklahoma) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I purchased this when I ordered my MacBook Air simply because I wanted the back-up security in case it was difficult to install programs through my iMac. I have used it consistently since that time and find it to be a perfectly adequate product. In fact, I would recommend it to anyone who purchases the MacBook Air. It is lightweight and almost as portable as the Air. Definitely recommended.
Macbook Air SuperDrive December 14, 2009 Robert Enrico Antonelli (Richmond, VA USA) Plug and play. No frills, no fireworks. It does what you buy it to do.
A Must-Have December 24, 2008 Candice G. Walker 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Lightweight. no software to install. just plug in. Good price. If you have a Mac Air, can't do w/o but that's the price you pay for the convenience of a tiny portable laptop
A No-brainer purchase January 20, 2009 Samuel Chell (Kenosha,, WI United States) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Congratulations to Apple for making a smart, stylish, simple and practical drive that isn't even matched price-wise by any of the competition. Now that I have it, I'm trying to think of excuses to use it. Why is it we initially got all fussed up about its absence from the first Air? As others have mentioned, the cord is quite short--especially if you're one of those who likes to "lap-compute," with the burner six or more feet away from you on a table or nightstand. 'Fraid the little burner is likely to be flopping about the bed clothing in short order. If it proves too much of a distraction, couplers and extension cables are available. Look for the next edition to solve the problem with a longer, self-retracting cable. On the positive side, the permanent attachment of the cable to the burner is a nice touch, assuring, as would otherwise be inevitable, that it doesn't get misplaced or lost.
